This is a day that has been custom-made for the joy of all who care to share in it. An endless, deep blue sky, the enticing yet elusive scents of spring float through the air, leading me deeper away into garden, instead of preparing for work. I could lose myself in the dozens of tiny chores and tasks that a day like today can bring to my attention. A handful of new weeds here, a branch sticking out to catch my hair that could be pruned, the grass looks a bit ragged over there, leaves that could have been moved in the fall…..on and on until I look up and behold! The morning is gone and I have got to go with it. My work as a custom designer at retail garden center leaves me wearied at the end of the day, but only because I pour so much of myself into it. I am that odd person who truly loves her work and is blessed to have it close to home. The Farm where I spend my Time is only six miles from my house through country roads, bordered by pastures and woodlands, bursting alive with the pastels of Spring. The cattle and horses that occupy the pastures are in deep, lush grass that a mere week or so ago lay flat and brown on the surface, sheep, goats and llamas are too busy munching to look up as I pass. It’s all humming and buzzing with the chorus of New Life, especially as I cross the small bridge over Lewis Creek, the froggies are a-courting, uh-huh. I am grateful to the Master of the Universe for allowing me the privilege of enjoying His Domain as I pass through the Farm Gates to enjoy another day of work.

“… because I pour so much of myself into it.”
That is so YOU, Sandi. You love what you do, and you do what you love. You are, indeed, blessed.

Sandi,
Thanks for taking me into the gourgeuos scents and scenes of springtime. It is a great day here today. Everyone is out an about. Joe went golfing, hubby is cleaning the garage and working outside. I decided, becausse I badly needed it!, to stop and have some beauty spa time at the nail salon, with the hair salon right next door!
I sure hope you are playing in the dirt today. Your picture is really inviting and is getting me a little in a planting mood….
Thanks for sharing your creativity in writing and gardening, Photography too!

Thanks, Kim, for stopping by. I’m glad you got to spend a little “Me” time today. That can make all the rest worth it. We had a terrific day today. After such a long, cold winter people want to get out and PLANT!

I want to come work there! I am not sure I would have the patience for dealing with customers as you do, but I would love to hang around the plants and talk with them. You create such a lovely picture of it, too. My drive to work is only 7 miles long but it definitely does not look like yours! Mine is all concrete and cars and tall buildings.

My drive is 50 miles and there is nothing but cars and concrete. I will bet that the plants are; so beautiful, I can smell them now.
BTW how is Barney….How’s the big guy handling all those hens…..Does he crow in the morning?? What time??

I am so happy for you. There are so few who truly love what they do. I was one, like you, who truly loved to go to work. To walk onto that campus, keys in hand no noise yet, just quiet. Student s still eating breakfast and wondering what Mr. Coulter was going to today. I would sit at my desk as the sun rose over the desert hills and just wonder … “What shall I do today to make their little minds engage in thought and learn?” Then it would come to me, and I would write today’s date on the white board and walk comely to the door (Calm is very important, stability, for some of my kids, I was the only stable man in their lives). Then, I would open the door and great of them each by name. You know, there is no other word more beautiful to the human ear than your name spoken by a friend or a person in authority. They were my family, and I loved them, each and every one.
